Review: Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert

July 1, 2022 by Eleni A.E. Leave a Comment

Our Crooked Hearts is a double tale of mother and daughter coming into magic and its consequences, when they were each 16-17 years old. The mother’s half of the story is told in flashbacks so as to create parallelisms with her daughter’s present storyline, cleverly woven in such a way that what happened in the past is slowly revealed to optimally fit and complement what is happening in the present.

Review: Dusk (The Navigator #2) by Matthew Samuels

June 30, 2022 by Traveling Cloak (Jason) Leave a Comment

When author Matthew Samuels asked me if I wanted to read and review Dusk, I jumped at the opportunity. I had read and reviewed Parasites – the first book in The Navigators series – a couple of years ago, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the story was light and fun with interesting characters and settings. And, mostly, I liked Dusk for the exact same reasons.

Steel Guardian is a finalist in the first ever SPSFC! I read it as part of the judging process.

Well, when I started this book I didn’t expect it to be as wholesome as it was. It was also a completely addictive read!

Review: Sons of Darkness (The Raag of Rta, #1) by Gourav Mohanty

June 26, 2022 by Dan Smith 1 Comment

Sons of darkness smashes open the fountain of originality, spilling insidious plot, incredible characters, and grim violence. I loved this book. Described as the Indian ASoIaF, it has feuding families, politics, war, and deceit in equal measures, but tops this with inspired world-building and a plot that starts as embers and ends as a blazing inferno.
