This year I read a lot less than I had planned. I only finished 17 books and 7 of those were either graphic novels/manga or novellas. However, for me that means that the books I did get through were almost all really good. In this list I have 4 books that I rated 9.5/10 and 1 book that I rated a perfect 10/10. Full reviews for each book are linked through each book’s cover. So without further ado, here is my list of favorite books that I read in 2023!
5) The Ice (The Bound and the Broken #3.5) by Ryan Cahill
“The Ice is a visceral, fast paced, and emotionally impactful masterpiece. In my reading experience, no one writes novellas as good as Ryan Cahill.“
4) The Slain Divine (Vagrants Gods #3) by David Dalglish
“The Vagrant Gods trilogy has been excellent all the way through and The Slain Divine was no exception to that rule.”
3) Lightbringer (Red Rising #6) by Pierce Brown
Light Bringer made me run the gamut of emotions from rage all the way to joy and back again. I was so happy with that.”
2) The Malevolent Seven by Sebastien de Castell
“The Malevolent Seven is a march through mayhem. A unique mix of murderous mages, polymorphic angels, cunning demons, found family, and much more.”
1) The Will of the Many (The Hierarchy #1) by James Islington
“The Will of the Many is hands down my favorite book of the year. A masterful combination of mystery, action, and suspense set in a uniquely immersive world that captivated me from the very first page.”
