Review: A Psalm For The Wild-Built (Monk & Robot, #1) by Becky Chambers

February 15, 2022 by Naty (Naty Reads Books) Leave a Comment

Rating: 10/10

Synopsis:

It’s been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend.

One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of “what do people need?” is answered.

But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

They’re going to need to ask it a lot.

Review:

A Psalm For The Wild-Built is a first in a series novella by Becky Chambers. It’s a super cute story about a monk named Dex and a robot Mosscap.

I really loved this book. It gave me a sense of relaxation. It’s hopeful and inspiring. It makes you want to reflect on your life and the choices you’ve made (want to make). The story revolves around these two characters as they meet each other and end up traveling together. Dex is on a mission to find themselves and their purpose for living while Mosscap is willing to help Dex in exchange for the answer to their question “what do people need?”. The story is more character driven than plot driven as we follow these two characters undergo amazing development. They both learn from one another on their incredibly sweet journey to enlightenment. I love how Mosscap is so thoughtful and willing to learn since robots have not shared their lives around humans for a long time. Mosscap is afraid of the human world but they’re still intellectually curious.

A Psalm For The Wild-Built is such a meditative read full of lovable character. I think this is perfect for those that want a light read in between heavy fantasy. Its a fast pace, lighthearted read I recommend to everyone.

Happy Reading!

About Naty (Naty Reads Books)

Hi everyone! My name is Natazha but I prefer being called Naty for short. I am currently a stay at home Mom of 2. I am the proud owner of a mischievous cat named Theodore but he is well known as the fierce and powerful, almighty Dragon Kitty. I am often cuddled up on the couch with a good book on hand (or audio book) while my youngest sleeps beside me and my toddler torments the living room space with her toys. I am a huge fan of Lord of The Rings and Star Wars (everything geeky). I often review Fantasy, Sci-fi, but most importantly anything that interests me. I am very happy to be a part of the book community, I have met so many amazing friends. Happy reading!
