So You Want to Read More Indie Authors

So you’ve been meaning to check out more indie authors. You may have mentioned this online or in person, but you’re not sure where to start. Well, boy, do I have a list for you! I recently shared two lists on Zombies (movies / shows) and where to watch them, which people seemed to enjoy. It got me thinking … what about a list of indie authors, one that can be updated and changed over time, and one that is not just some names, but like an actual LIST.

Personally, I’ve always been a big reader. I fell off in my late teens/early 20s, true, but around 2017, I started up again in earnest. I made my bookstagram in October of 2020 and have been sharing reviews/reccomendations ever since. Within only a few months, I began receiving some DMs about review opportunities, ARCs, and even some physical review copies. I think back then it was a tad less stigmatized than it is now, but personally, I always thought it was so cool that someone would take a chance on me and on what I might think of their work.

Indie author and all-around cool guy, Tom Dumbrell, was the very first to reach out to me. One of the things that has always stuck with me is that he didn’t just look for a review. He kept in contact and would check in. We became friends. Now that I’m going on almost six full years in this community, it’s interesting to think back on that time (of course fondly) because then I didn’t even know reviewing could be such a community.

All this was several years before I even considered the idea of joining this community as a writer myself, but that one friendly interaction set off a chain reaction that led us here today. I read anywhere from 50-100+ books a year. Every month includes multiple indie reads, and I try my best to spread the news of them far and wide. I hope you’ll check out some of the names on this list and do the same. We’ll gladly accept you into this awesome community, whether it be fantasy, horror, sci-fi, or more!

No real order for anything below, but I think I’ll start with the authors I have already read. That way, they come with a spotlight on them, and I can say I recommend them too. I’ll try to include the author’s linktree or site so people can read and follow as they please.
