I’ve been brewing/toying with this one for quite a while. As a self-proclaimed zombie connoisseur, I wanted to put together a list of shows that I could come back to over and over, adding to it at least semi-exhaustively. While I may not have seen everything out there, I figured few would have tackled as many as me, so why not share them? One place, one list. I hope you’ll check out something new and let me know what you think!
Along with the cover of each show, I will include a small synopsis. I may not comment on every show, but a sentence or two of my thoughts might appear. Everything shown below will be shows that I have watched to completion, or am still watching if they’re still on. I will also share where you can stream them.
Personally for me, there are simply times when I’m feeling some undead. Therefore, this list will include them all: the slow-moving Romero-style zombies, the fast and rageful, foreign (even subtitled) biters, and even the zombie-adjacent. We don’t discriminate; we watch, and we don’t judge.
So, without further ado…
One Zombie Show List To Rule Them All

The Walking Dead
In the wake of a zombie apocalypse, survivors hold on to the hope of humanity by banding together to wage a fight for their own survival.
*Arguably the King of zombies, I do assume if you like the genre, you’ve already watched it, but if not, great place to start too. Pretty killer spinoff series too. I reviewed all things TWD here.
Currently watch on Netflix/AMC+

Kingdom
While strange rumors about their ill King grip a kingdom, the crown prince becomes their only hope against a mysterious plague overtaking the land.
*This one actually does have a review from me here. This has a slow start, but a wild end.
Watch on Netflix

Z Nation
A team embarks on a perilous cross-country mission to transport the one man who survived a deadly zombie virus, hoping he holds the key to a vaccine.
*Sort of sillier than The Walking Dead, but led by fantastic characters. The lighter tone works.
Currently watch on AMC+/Tubi/Peacock

Daybreak
High school outcast Josh is searching for his missing girlfriend in post apocalyptic Glendale. He’s joined by a group of misfits Angelica and his former bully Wesley. On the way they’ll face many weird things.
*One of those prematurely canceled, but worth checking out all the same.
Watch on Netflix

The Last of Us
Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-outbreak America.
*Based on one of the best games ever made. I love Pedro as Joel, and frankly, Bella gets a bad rap. So many of the complaints are about the writing!
Watch on HBO Max

Fear the Walking Dead
A Walking Dead spinoff set in Los Angeles, California. Follows two families who must band together to survive the undead apocalypse.
*Easily the best spinoff. Shows the outbreak which you won’t see in the original due to Rick’s coma. Great cast that gets a tad muddied by mixing TWD characters.
Watch on AMC+

Freakish
A group of high schoolers struggles against predatory mutants who have taken over their town after a chemical plant meltdown.
*Sort of a young adult show similar to Daybreak. Coincidentally also prematurely canceled. Seems shockingly close in plot to This Is Not a Test
Watch on Hulu

All of Us Are Dead
A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out or turn into one of the rabid infected.
*Kind of K-Drama zombies; this one kind of rocked the world when it released. Now give us season 2!
Watch on Netflix

Tales of the Walking Dead
An episodic anthology that will follow individual characters from the The Walking Dead TV universe, both new and old.
*An anthology-style TWD spinoff? I definitely thought this would have had more legs.
Watch on AMC+

Black Summer
In the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, complete strangers band together to find the strength they need to survive and get back to loved ones.
*A Z Nation prequel series that goes surprisingly hard. Way more serious and wildly intense. Canceled prematurely
Watch on Netflix

Resident Evil
Nearly three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, an outbreak reveals the Umbrella Corporation’s dark secrets.
*I’ve seen some of the movies, but played very little of the games. Personally, this worked for me. Zombies and zombie-adjacent.
Watch on Netflix

In the Flesh
Four years after the Rising, the government starts to rehabilitate the Undead for reentry into society, including teenager Kieren Walker, who returns to his small Lancashire village to face a hostile reception, as well as his own demons.
*Mostly drama-focused, the idea of showing zombies post-apocalypse really allowed them to build a showcase of societal fear and systemic racism.
Currently watch on Hulu/Prime/Peacock

The Walking Dead: World Beyond
The series focuses on the first generation to grow up during the zombie apocalypse.
*A TWD limited series that got way more criticized than it deserved IMO. TWD does young adult. Still dangerous, still dark. Strong characters.
Watch on AMC+

Reality Z
A zombie apocalypse that imprisons participants and producers of a reality show called Olimpo, The House of the Gods. The studio becomes a shelter for those who seek salvation in Rio de Janeiro where chaos and hopelessness begin to rule.
*Zombies breakout during a reality TV show, need I say more?
Watch on Netflix

Helix
Scientists from the Centers for Disease Control travel to a research facility in the Arctic.
*More sci-fi focused than zombies, the show is more about the scientists/doctors who could actually create something like a T-Virus. Definitely zombie-adjacent.
Watch on Hulu/Tubi

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
Daryl’s journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home.
*France, England, Spain? How the hell did he get there…who the hell cares? We all wanted more Daryl. And Carol.
Watch on AMC+

Ash vs Evil Dead
Ash has spent the last thirty years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind’s only hope.
*Deadites are zombies. Bruce Campbell back as Ash? Yes please! Somewhat zombie-adjacent, like Resident Evil.
Currently watch on Prime/Starz & personally I bought it

Marvel Zombies
After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking their lives to save their world.
*Beloved Marvel characters turned undead AND cool animation? Yes.
Watch on Disney+

The Walking Dead: Dead City
Maggie and Negan travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world.
*Personally not sure I needed more Maggie/Negan, but I”ve liked what they’ve done. Also zombie-fied NYC is sick.
Currently watch on Netflix/AMC+

Zomboat!
A Zombie apocalypse is unleashed in Birmingham and sisters Kat and Jo, together with unlikely travel companions Sunny and Amar must flee for their lives…by canal boat.
*I mean…sometimes you just need something to watch, okay? This one is weird and quirky. Prematurely canceled, too.
Watch on Hulu

Revival
One miraculous day in rural Wisconsin the deceased rise from their graves, yet appear and act unchanged. And now it is up to Officer and single mother Dana Cypress to solve a murder case where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.
*Zombie-adjacent and definitely ends as something else, but I enjoyed it.
Currently watch on Prime/Hulu/Apple, though none for free right now.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
The love story between Rick and Michonne. Changed by a world that is constantly changing, will they find themselves in a war against the living or will they discover that they too are The Walking Dead?
*The latest of the spinoffs (thought Dead City and Daryl Dixon aren’t over yet) and while I of course hope they get the band back together fully, I think this show deserved a part two. May TV Rick Grimes never die.
Watch on AMC+

Game of Thrones
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
*A bit of a stretch and mostly for fun (kind of like this show’s finale) you can’t tell me the White Walkers aren’t undead ice zombies!
Watch on HBO Max

I can’t help that there are 900 Walking Dead shows, just as I can’t help but watch them all. I at the very least tried to sprinkle them throughout this list in order (if that helps?).
