RATING: 4/5

SYNOPSIS

Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. Yet Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live.

When Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he’s willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

REVIEW

Re-read (or rather, re-listening) this masterpiece via Libro.fm (special thanks to Libro.fm and Hachette for the audiobook listening copy!) before the final book in this series is out on 22.10.2019. Simon Vance did a great job in narrating this book! Well done!

I remember having some problems with Brent Weeks’s writing style when i first read the Black Prism. After getting used to his writing style and re-reading this book, I have to say, the world building, magic system as well as the characterization sets a very high bar for other fantasy authors to reach. The idea of using colours as the source of magic shows the creativity and authenticity of Brent Weeks as a fantasy author.

This is also a highly character driven series. The emotions, mental state, inner struggle of all the major characters were very well fleshed out throughout this book. All the chapters in this book are short chapters but that does not sacrifice the characterization and world building of this series.

After re-reading the Black Prism, I think it deserves a strong 4/5 star rating. Have to quickly catch up with the other books before the final installment comes out!

I need to push this to the top of my fantasy TBR list. Need something good after finishing all of Joe Abercrombie’s!
