Finn had thought he’d seen it all…but no…he had to admit…
Not quite everything…
There was a big universe out there and it was about to land in his lap.
Just how bad could it be?
Finn is a troubled war-hero, overseen by an unyielding Commanding Officer while dragging his group of rookies through basic training. When an alien incursion lands in the middle of a patrol exercise, wielding powerful weapons and alien armour far beyond their own, he is forced to lead the remnants of Delta Squad in a desperate struggle for survival.
Utilising light-reflecting camouflage, the aliens go on the rampage, killing indiscriminately and capturing Finn’s CO before going on the hunt. Outgunned, and with the world’s armed forces helpless to act after a second incursion drops, Delta set out on a desperate rescue mission, only for the aliens to reveal a weapon that could change modern-day warfare forever.
Finding themselves in a battle for Earth’s future, Delta Squad discover the aliens are more than they seem, and that alien technology can be just as deadly in the hands of humanity when they unearth a deadly secret ‒ the Weapons of Choice.

Review
Grabbed this one on audio to give it a go, as I’d been meaning to check out the author, and this caught my eye.
We all know governments have contingencies planned for an eventual alien invasion, right? This one just so happened to hit during a military training, where most of those involved aren’t even full members yet. And did I mention they aren’t carrying live rounds? Finn does his best to lead his squad to safety, to keep them alive, but he also can’t take this invasion of his home lying down. What follows is a tight-knit, politically charged military sci-fi.
I had known there was a side of science fiction that heavily featured a military presence. I’ve seen more movies (Aliens, Predator) do it than read books that do, but boy, was this a fast and tense ride! Snape’s writing is slick and technical, while never being cumbersome or hard to digest. He offers readers quick chapters, a hell of a cast of characters, and a political side I wasn’t expecting. It brought to mind the detail-rich writing of Thomas Harris and the action thrills of Nicholas Sansbury Smith. To say I was a fan is an understatement.
Just the idea of including (virtually) weaponless soldier-trainees against an alien presence that is already more advanced would never have occurred to me. I’m impressed by how it allowed the author to bob in and out of a traditional military shoot-em-up, and even more so by how it allowed him to keep the story emotionally grounded and human. There is duty, there is macho behavior, but there are the necessary beats of humanity that allow the action to soar. And it certainly does with pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat moments.
The inclusion of sequences that revolved around the US President and Vice President was so technically smart. As the reader follows Finn and his squad, they must know only as much as the team itself, but through these almost interlude scenes, the author is able to step back and almost narrate what else is going on outside the action. It’s political intrigue meets thriller meets sci-fi. That aspect reminded me of N.C. Scrimgeour’s political culture in Those Left Behind, but of course this is one on Earth. It felt so spot on as to how our government would actually approach something like this, how they would want the tech for themselves, regardless of the cost.
Impressed only scratches the surface. I loved my time with this one. A finger-to-the-trigger action story, if you will. Perfect for fans of sci-fi, aliens, military thrillers, and wickedly paced stories
