Review: Davga: An Endless War Novella by L.M. Douglas

Rating: /10

A Prisoner.

A Past Forgotten.

A Fate Awakened.

Buried deep within the ruthless sprawl of Rakul’s prison, a man once known as Davga has severed all ties to his past—until a mysterious stranger rekindles the dormant magic within him.

Now, he must confront the fractured remnants of the life he left behind and unlock powers he believed lost forever.

But as his true nature awakens, one question remains:

Who is the real Davga Tranfe’er?

Review:

Douglas is at the top of her game. Everything about Davga feels polished. The prose tight but descriptive. The characterization of Davga and his relationship with Huntsman was compelling. And the story contained plenty of juicy surprises.

Davga, our titular character, is a mystery even to himself. As the story goes on, we find out how he ended up in the Rakul prison. It is hard to talk more about Davga as pretty much everything about him is a spoiler. But suffice to say, it’s a wild ride!

On the surface this seems like an independent story from the rest of The Chronicles of the Endless War series as we are following a brand new character in a remote corner of the world, but I’d argue this novella is crucial to understanding the world. My favorite parts of Davga were the tidbits of lore related to the gods, the magic, and the past hidden in these pages. On more than one occasion, my mind buzzed away thinking about the implications of what was said on the struggles of Criterious and company. A perfect tease for the upcoming third novel.

Davga is epic fantasy at its best. Give it a read, you won’t be disappointed.
