Synopsis:
LINES WILL BE CROSSED.
After blowing her cover as a double agent within Silver Elite and fleeing the Prime-controlled capital, Wren Darlington is finally safe behind allied lines. As her lover and former commander Cross Redden works to disrupt the Primes from inside their ranks, Wren turns her focus toward assisting the Uprising in overthrowing their rule once and for all.
LOYALTIES WILL BE TESTED.
But though she’s back among her own people, trust is hard-won and hidden agendas abound on the Mod base. And beyond those walls, Wren can’t help but worry that Cross is keeping secrets of his own. . . secrets that could jeopardise everything.
Complicating matters even further is her shocking reunion with hotshot fighter pilot and undercover operative, Grayson Blake. Once her closest friend in Silver Elite, Gray seems to understand Wren on a level she never thought possible.
AND THE FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE OF THE CONTINENT IS ONLY JUST BEGINNING.
With the war between Mods and Primes growing more brutal by the day, and with her own role in the conflict becoming more essential than ever, Wren must confront some gut-wrenching questions.
WHO IS SHE FIGHTING FOR . . . AND WHO IS SHE WILLING TO LOSE?
Review:
I suspect this will have fans ANGRYYYY.
Don’t read on if you haven’t read book one. I have a review for that – it’s got crack in it and is very readable. The same goes for the sequel.
Non-spoiler review for book two:
So, Wren is separated from the scary and broody captain of Silver Elite. She’s now in the rebel base with a sex-obsessed deserter.
“Is this really necessary?” he complains, holding up his wrist.
“Trust me, I’m not thrilled about sharing a lavatory with you, either.”
“I was talking about this fucking tracker. But you’re right. The lav bit is equally preposterous. What if I want to jerk off in the shower?”
“I can stand there and watch,” I say helpfully. “Cheer you on.”
Xavier doubles over. “Oh, hellfuck, that would be amazing.”
It is so hard to talk about this book because SO MUCH HAPPENS.
Wren is still horny. She is still anti-social and hotheaded. She is still driven and an incredible sniper. She’s still really fun to follow.
Why do I think this might polarise the obsessed fans? The romance. And I can’t say ANYTHING else because I don’t want to spoil everything.
Basically, stay away from anything Broken Dove because I bet spoilers will run rampant.
The writing was as addictive as book one.
There is more attention given to Modifieds and their abilities as well as the wider world.
He’s clever, I’ll give him that. The impassioned speech, the clear battle lines. Sowing fear, because fear is how you control the masses. Making them question whether they’re on the right side of this war, because nobody wants to feel like the villain of their own story.
Again, this is dystopian ROMANCE. Whilst this one does touch on more Uprising themes and politics; you’re basically here for the drama and tension.
It is not gritty. It has plot conveniences and eye-rolling moments. It wastes a lot of time with horny, teenage-acting young adults.
It was bingeable and fun and I need book three.
