I’m so fortunate to say I had the opportunity to speak with Sadie Hartmann, or as many of you may know her, Mother Horror! Sadie is someone I HIGHLY respect in the horror community, someone who I have learned lots from about reviewing. Her book 101 Horror Books to Read Before You’re Murdered most recently won the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Long Non-Fiction. She is also the co-owner of the monthly horror fiction subscription company, Night Worms.
In this conversation, we cover many topics including an evaluation in our methods of reviewing, how we decide what we read, seasonal reading, reading horror centered around the female experience, battling the dreaded reading slump, the magic (or lack thereof) in reading “classic” horror, and where we hope to see the Bookstagram/reviewing community grow. Unfortunately, my Wifi decided to take a vacation around the 41-42 minute mark, but we get right back on track following that brief disruption. I’m so incredibly grateful for Sadie’s time and willingness to share her experiences with reviewing and reading!
I also want to take the time to thank everyone for helping to spread the word about my channel and my last interview with Liz Kerin! While there is no set schedule just yet thanks to the summer holidays, I’ll be back in the next few weeks with more interviews. Until then, happy reading!
