Review: Kraken Rider Z ( Kraken Rider Z Series #1) by David Estes and Dyrk Ashton
Synopsis If there’s one thing dragons fear, it’s a kraken. Even lowly hull-scrubber Zee Tarrow knows that. Like everyone on the island kingdom of Tosh, he grew up frightened by fables and horrible tales of the great beasts of the deep. It seems an odd thing to impress upon the children of the realm, because–luckily […]

Review: Before The Devil Knows You’re Here by Autumn Krause
The best way I can think to summarize this book would be to say that Krause writes up an atmospheric homage to a mixed cultural background and the memory of a person dear to her, depicting a different, darker, and more folk gothic side to early 19th century americana. Bringing to life that solid and vivid mix of folk tales and myth that were also paired with the Christian overtones informing the 1800s American short story. Think Washington Irving’s The Devil and Tom Walker but add more monsters and a gutsy young woman willing to do anything for her family.

Synopsis After a tragic accident ends Sampson’s life, he’s given a second chance by Aki, the grim reaper in a tracksuit. Aki, a fellow fan of Sampson’s favorite light novel series “My Royal Academia,” offers to help him, but only if he agrees to save the story from its hiatus. Reincarnated into the very real […]
Review: Ascendant (Songs of Chaos #1) by Michael R. Miller
Ascendant gave me everything I expected from an epic fantasy dragon rider story – all the usual tropes are present, like coming of age, found family, good vs evil, magical bonds – but it felt so fresh and new. The author has taken a tried and tested formula and made it his own.
Review: Fly with the Arrow (Bluebeard’s Secret #1) by Sarah K.L. Wilson
Fly with the Arrow is a clever retelling with a fantasy twist. Wilson’s world building reminds me of Holly Black’s Folk of the Air series where cruelty, trickery and riddles are on tap, wild fae creatures are a plenty, and plotting and scheming are their favorite pastimes.
Review: Ascendant (Songs of Chaos) by Michael R Miller
Holt Cook was never meant to be a dragon rider. He has always served the Order Hall of the Crag dutifully, keeping their kitchen pots clean
