I’m BACK, baby! After a brief hiatus, I present to you today my interview with the one and only, Nat Cassidy! Nat is the author of Mary, Nestlings, and the soon to be released novella, Rest Stop, from Shortwave Publishing.
There’s a whole lot of things we talk about over this hour such as:
– Nat’s approach to writing short fiction vs. long fiction
– the similarities between horror in the short form and comedy
– Nat’s chapbooks with Shortwave called The Cassidy Catacombs
– all things Rest Stop
– the duality of horror to be both moving and entertaining
– writing personable horror
– the similarities between some forms of acting and writing
– deep and philosophical questions about the “why” of life
– the nature of cyclical, familial trauma and how it shows up in art
– cosmic beings and snakes and spiders and other creepy crawlies
– atmosphere and pressure within a confined setting
– googly eyes
– empathy in horror
– how horror is sort of holy
A list of the books/stories that we mention include:
– The Art of What You Want and Generation by Nat
– Nice, a short story from Nat that can be found in The Darkest Night anthology edited by Lindy Ryan
– Night Shift, Gerald’s Game, The Mist, and Misery by Stephen King
– A Sunny Place for Shady People and Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez

A huge, huge thanks to Nat for his time! It was a true delight, and I sincerely hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
