Happy Friday, all! This week, I’m sharing my interview with Joshua Chaplinsky, author of the recently released Letters to the Purple Satin Killer from CLASH Books. Joshua is also the author of ‘The Paradox Twins’, ‘Whispers in the Ear of A Dreaming Ape’, and ‘Kanye West—Reanimator.’ His short fiction has been published by Vice, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Thuglit, Severed Press, PMMP, Expat Press, and Broken River Books. He was the Managing Editor of LitReactor.com (2011-2023). Today’s conversation is a rather extensive look at Letters to the Purple Satin Killer. While there are no spoilers, we do speak in very deep detail of the book so you may want to read before listening!
We cover topics such as:
– how LPSK came to be
– the inspiration behind various characters
– importance of different perspectives
– the ethics of writing about serial killers
– discussion of the epistolary format
– Joshua’s writing process for this novel
– purpose of time and setting
– discussion of perception as it pertains to the media
– the ripple effect of violence amongst victims
– a small discussion of Longlegs
This was such an informative conversation, and I cannot thank Joshua enough for his time! Letters to the Purple Satin Killer is on shelves NOW!
