Synopsis
An enemy slain is not a conflict won…
After decades of war the demon Te Mirkvahíl is dead. But its progeny endure, spilling from the Heart of Mirkúr, sowing death across the land of Ariath. If the people are to finally know peace, the Heart must be destroyed. Theailys An believes he can do just that with The Keepers’ Wrath, an infamous power focus wrought in Ariath’s yesteryears–but the weapon first must be reforged.
War spares no one…
Serece never intended to get involved in Ariath’s war. But history and demons have a way of pulling strings. When she learns Theailys An, a man whom she abhors, bears striking similarity to the first creator of The Keepers’ Wrath, Serece departs her mountain world for Ariath to ascertain the truth.
From patience, hope…
For millennia Behtréal has walked the world alone. Rewriting history to resurrect his people is easier said than done. But Ariath holds the key–soon The Keepers’ Wrath will be remade.
Truth from madness…
As paths converge and a shadow falls across Ariath, one thing becomes increasingly and horrifyingly clear–these events have played out many times before.
Review
Wow, that was an absolutely mind-blowing tale of plague ridden madness, full of gut-wrenching scenes that leave you virtually floored. You can feel that author Luke Tarzian has poured his heart, soul, and pain into giving us this beautiful story of darkness and light.
Vultures is the first book in his Shadow Twin series and captivates your mind with its poetically stylish writing, and his prose is so beautifully exquisite. The worldbuilding and setting are excellent, giving you a feeling of a dreamlike sequence as you drift through the pages.
What I love about Vultures is the pace as you try to figure out what’s going on with the characters and who’s connected to who. Are they dreaming, are they possessed or flitting through different timelines, and when it clicks, you are left dumbfounded in awe with the authors craftsmanship.
If you love your fantasy, dark, very grim, fantastic dark magic system and plaguely gore ridden with demons and a demon lord that lusts for blood and death and is a soul sucking despicable monster. It is a story that is excellently character driven with a host protagonists that you will love and load with equal measure, then invest your soul into this beautifully tragic tale of brilliance.
Luke Tarzian is now up there with two of my favourite grimlords of dark fantasy Michael R Fletcher and Clayton W Snyder. Can’t wait to read the next book, House of Muir.
In this book, Theailys An has lost everything, his wife is dead. His sister has claimed that she has killed the demon lord Te Mirkvalhil, but has she really. After decades of war and plague and demons. Theailys An’s mission is to forge a weapon, The Keepers Wrath, the only one with the magic ability to do so and destroy the Heart and rid the world of evil once and for all.
But with other players involved pulling the strings, creating dream like sequences of reality, and bringing back those who are long dead. Will Theailys An succeed in his goal to end the bloody madness, or will the madness be end of him.
Check it out. You won’t regret it. If you haven’t checked out Luke Tarzians books yet, I very highly recommend that you do.
