Review
The Broken Sword is an old, timely classic that still stands strong to this day with the likes of the Legends of Tolkien, E. Howard and Moorcock. First published in 1954 by Poul Anderson, The Broken Sword truly is one the best books I’ve read this year.
If you are a fan of Norse mythology, Irish, and English MythandFolklore, then this tale is for you, a story full of fantasy goodness.
If you love poetic prose and you don’t need to empathise with your characters, this is such a captivating tale.
The author Poul Anderson weaves and retells a pre-Christian story of the fae in Europe. Odin and the Wild Hunt, the elf-troll wars, goblins, brownies, dwarves and the Sidhe all feature alongside Valkyrie and Loki in this tale of war and the decline of the old gods and the rise of the White Christ.
The Broken Sword is a fast-paced, action-packed story with gruesome and bloody graphic scenes and episodes of extreme violence and excellent intriguing characters.
The sword Tyrfing must be made whole again if the Evles are to have any chance of surviving and being eliminated from the Isle of Briton. Trolls have invaded, bringing with them destruction and death.
The hero to wield the sword is Skafloc, a young man raised and adopted by the elves must convince Bolverk the mighty ice giant to fix the sword, to end the slaughter of his kin, but Skaflocs nemesis and shadow self Valgard the changeling stands against him, leader of the trolls will do everything to stop him.
Damn, I now know why I love norse and dark Inspired Fantasy. It’s because of beautifully written books like this that just captivate me. I very highly recommend you give this a try. You won’t regret it…😁💀🖤🧌🪓🗡
