Review: The Anatomy of Fear (Anthology)

October 30, 2023 by Alan Behan Leave a Comment

Rating: 10/10

Synopsis

A Spookylicious, Grimalicious Stravaganza.

‘The skull bell tolled, but only Lena heard it.’ – L.L. MacRae (Bone) Fear is universal – a shared human experience that provokes awe, curiosity and terror. It feeds our anxieties, elevating our heartbeats and driving the instinct to survive. But what are we afraid of – and why? Each story in this anthology seeks to answer that question, blurring the boundaries between horror and fantasy fiction. A collection of tales written to evoke feelings of discomfort and despair, fear and fascination in equal measure – inspired by the different parts of our own fragile, breakable, all-too-mortal bodies. Ranging from dark, blood-stained gothic streets to haunting visions of otherworldly beings to drug-fuelled paranoia trips that twist reality, The Anatomy of Fear is an exploration of the dark realms of the mind.

Review

Damn that was so Grimalicious from the very first story to the last, leaving you with goosebumps from head to toe from the macabre setting each, and every author has added to this fantastic horror riddled Anthology.

The Anatomy of Fear was created by twelve indie authors who are on top of their game, releasing amazing stories one after the other, creating wonderful dark worlds for us to lose ourselves and scare ourselves senseless.

Now, each story brings a horror fueled read from dark, blood-stained gothic streets to haunting visions of otherworldly beings, witch craft, demon cults to drug-fuelled paranoia trips with God’s, The Anatomy of Fear is an exploration of human appendages in gory detail and scours the dark realms of the human mind.

I absolutely loved every story, each author bringing their wonderful worldbuilding, beautiful storytelling, and creativeness that draws you in from the very first page, giving you an eerie feeling of fear.

I knew this anthology would be amazing due to some of my favourite indie authors getting involved, like Lee C. Conley, Tim Hardie, H.L Tinsley, Zamil Akhtar, and Jacob Sannox are bringing us more dark fantasy horror and grimdark, and they just get better.

For my first foray into reading the works of Trudie Skies, L.L. Macrae, Bjorn Larssen, Sean Crow, Krystle Matar, BA Bellec, and Ryan Howse, I will definitely be delving into their books in the near future if this what their delivering in such short stories, I’ll be very excited to get stuck in and check them out.

If you are a fan of Grimdark, fantasy horror, or just love being scared to death, then I very highly recommend you check this beautifully put-together dark anthology by some very talented writers, you won’t be disappointed…😬🔥💀🖤☠️

Available to preorder on Kindle, release date 6th of November.

About Alan Behan

Right a bit about myself, I am married to my wonderful wife Catherine of 18 years, we have three beautiful girls together, 20, 18 and 14 years of age. They are my world as well as my books...😁 I work full time as industrial plumber, I'm 45 years old and my hobbies is spending time with my family and of course reading fantasy every chance I can get. I love supporting indie authors and getting the word out about their new books. My all-time favorite authors are Steven Erikson, Mark Lawrence and Robert Jordan and that's just to name a few.
