Synopsis:
Belladonna Blackthorn hasn’t lost her magical spark . . . but she hasn’t seen it in a while, either.
Balancing work at her beloved Lunar Books with protecting it from her toxic boss, who’s running it into the ground, and all the while concealing her witchcraft from the non-wicches around her – Belle is burnt out. Perfecting the potential of her magic is the last thing on her mind.
But when her 30th birthday brings a summons from her coven, and a trial that tests her worthiness as a witch, Belle risks losing her magic forever. With the month of October to fix things, and signs that dark forces may be working against her, Belle will need all the help she can get – from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure, and even an (infuriatingly handsome) watchman who’s sworn to protect her . . .
With found family, slow burn romance and an uplifting message about self-love, this is the cosy, autumnal read that you’ve been waiting for.
Review:
Thank you Macmillan for sending me an early copy to review.
Hellooooo cosy autumn reads. It is time. Make sure you’ve got Rewitched on your cosy tbr because it is *perfect*. Coming in at almost 400 pages it’s chonky for a cosy read, but the story hooked me and the pages flew by!
One of my biggest loves about Rewitched is that it’s Belle’s 30th birthday is the catalyst for the books’ events, and with my 30th birthday fast approaching it added a whole level of ‘real’ to Rewitched. I sense too that 30 will be a turning point in my life and I’d rather that birthday didn’t happen either. No, I’m not a witch but I still really appreciated reading an mc who is my age! But this review isn’t about me or my birthday-fears.
I really loved this story. It’s a story of discovery and self-love. Belle is threatened with losing her magic unless she can complete a series of tasks to prove that she can/will use her magic right. Alongside running a bookshop that is slowly being destroyed by a corporate boss she has a lot on her plate. She’s given a mentor in the form of an ostracised warlock to help her learn more about her magic. The relationships between the characters in Rewitched are really special, there’s found family but also Belle has a wonderfully supportive Mum and I loved seeing all these people come together to help Belle.
The synopsis does mention a slow-burn romance but be warned that it is very, very slow. I’m talking the entire book slow, and I really liked that it wasn’t the main plot, just something that happens for Belle over the course of the events of Rewitched. So if you’re looking for more romance than anything else this may not be the book for you.
This is the perfect autumnal cosy read. It’s set in October so you know it’s all autumnal vibes and while theoretically the stakes are high it’s still a cosy read. My lasting impressions from the book are of hope, self-love and finding yourself. It’s such a wholesome read.
