Synopsis
I keep telling myself things could be worse.
Okay, so my mom’s been harboring some hefty family secrets. Big deal.
And, yeah, maybe there are still two or three teensy details about Zayn that I don’t know – his backstory, his private life, or his real name, for starters.
Oh, and let’s not forget that there’s a bloodthirsty, power-hungry, magical mob boss who’s due to appear at any moment. No biggie.
So long as there are no more family bombshells, incubus-related heartbreaks, or unexpected, terrifying journeys into the Fae Realm, I’ll be completely fine. Because, as I’ve already reminded myself at least twelve times since breakfast, there’s no way things could possibly get worse.
…Right?
Review
Yes, this series continues to mesmerise, fun, laugh out loud moments, and the steam oh my, where is my fan, I think need to cool down a bit 🌬🚿
Like the first book, I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of this one, too, actually even more so. A cosy read that gives you a break from all the Grimdark and horror I’ve read all year.
Rachel Rener is fantastic at writing good, humoured, and hilarious scenes that will keep you turning the pages, but she is also very good at bringing the very emotional moments that keeps you on the edge of your seat worried for your favourite characters.
I love the characters, Biscuit, the familiar, a talking parrot is adorable, and Dee Dee, Talia’s Jewish banshee screaming mother, continues to be my favourite. We get to meet a lot more magical creatures that add more excitement to this fantastic book.
Rachel’s magical system is very unique, where tattoos are the source of magic ruins that can kill and bring things to life by mixing fae blood and ingredients from the fae realm.
In this book, Talia and Zayn’s relationship continues to grow and evolve. Talia learns more about her heritage and her parents’ backgrounds. When a mob boss from the fae realm turns up with his cronies to his tattoo parlour. Zayn must do all he can and hide Talia’s magical blood from him, and stop her from being enslaved just like himself.
It is a story of love, vengeance, friendships, and just a fun read, with fantastic storytelling. If you love romance, magic, and mystical and supernatural creatures, then I very highly recommend….😁💙🔥🧜🧛
