Review: House Of Muir (The Shadow Twins Series #2) by Luke Tarzian

December 10, 2024 by Alan Behan Leave a Comment

Rating: 9.5/10

Synopsis

ONCE MARKED, ALWAYS MARKED…

The war that was won is lost. His country razed and friends dead, Cailean Catil seeks the miserable solace of inebriation. But fate has other plans for ill-lucked men.

An ocean away, he returns to the Galrun Muir, the order from which he was previously exiled. Seeking answers as to why they now worship the monster haunting his dreams, Cailean embarks on a quest to confront the ghost of Gabriel Muir and seal his tomb. Should he succeed, all will be made clear.

But some truths are better left dead.

THE GUILT WILL ALWAYS CALL YOU BACK…

Fiel has lost everything. Her niece is dead at the hands of Te Mirkvahíl and her country has been razed by the demon’s legions. But fate has other plans for ill-lucked women.

An ocean away, in the city Harbanan, Fiel resumes her search for Vare Tal-úlm. Her journey leads her to the monster-hunting Galrun Muir who claim not only to have knowledge of Vare, but of Fiel’s previous visit to their hallowed grounds.

Lady Mirkvahíl, they say, has returned.

THE DEAD RISE…

Behtréal has won. Helveden is a ruin, the Ariathan Empire is dead, and The Keepers’ Wrath is his to wield. With it, in the dead city Banerowos, he can rewrite history and reclaim lives lost—he can bring his people back.

But things are not so simple as that, for within the dead city Behtréal must contend with the guilt of memory and all its ghosts.

MADNESS IN TRUTH…

The doors have opened.

Welcome in.

Review

Damn, that was an absolute mind-fuck of a read. The first book was astounding. This book just blew it out of the atmosphere. I now understand why the author took a while to get this down on paper after book One Vultures. You can’t rush perfection, and you can see that Author Luke Tarzian has polished this literary masterclass of a tale with his blood, sweat, and tears.

House of Muir is the second book in his Shadow Twin series and it captivates your mind vividly like you are tripping on mushrooms and living someone elses nightmare. The setting is so dark and creepy that you might need to leave the light on after reading.

I’ve heard it said before that the authors writing is similar to my favourite author Steven Erikson, and they are absolutely right. His penmanship is poetically wonderful, and his prose is so beautifully weaved together. The worldbuilding and plot are excellent, giving you a feeling of a dreamlike state of consciousness as you float through the House of horrors.

This is dark fantasy at it very darkest and finest. It’s grimalicious. The dark magic system is so good. A gore ridden tale of a demon lord with a lust for souls, death, and blood who is looking to rewrite the world for his own entertainment.

If you love a story that is brilliantly character driven with a host of protagonists that you will love and loath with equal measure, then invest your soul into this epic soul rendering tale of dark elegance.

In this book, after the events and fall of Helvelden by a demon horde released into the world by the evil lord Behtreal. The Keepers Wrath has fallen into his hands, and there is no one to stop him or is there. Two of my favourite characters, Cailean Catil and Fiel, find themselves on very different paths oceans away.

Cailean has found himself returned to his old order the Galrun Muir after being exiled by them is back seeking answers and truths of a monster they now worship is haunting his every sleeping moment. Plagued by an old lover, will Cailean seek what he is looking for, or has fate got other plans for him.

Fiel has lost everything, including her niece. Finding the strength, she resumes her search for Vare Tal-ulm. Fiel finds herself in the company of the Galrun Muir with the knowledge of who she seeks. But will old memories of old times come back to haunt her once, and for all. Read and find out, you won’t regret delving into this literary excellence.

Luke Tarzian has now become my new Grim Lord and Reaper of dark fantasy. If you haven’t checked or read any of his books yet, I very highly recommend that you do.
