The New Empire intends to celebrate its victory over the Nationalists with a day that will never be forgotten. On the high holiday of Wintertide, they plan to execute two traitors (Degan Gaunt and the Witch of Melengar) as well as force the Empress into a marriage of their own design. But they didn’t account for Royce and Hadrian finally locating the Heir of Novron—or the pair’s desire to wreak havoc on the New Empire’s carefully crafted scheme.
REVIEW
Book 3 of the Riyria Revelations: Heir Of Novron. Loved the first half of the book. Second half of it was okay to me as I had some problems with the pacing. Firstly, I had to say this is a decent conclusion to the series. Modina and Arista’s characterization shone throughout the book. Both of them without a doubt are my favourites in this entry. Again there are some plot twists which I did not see them coming. Unpredictability is what I love most in a fantasy series.
Now to the cons of this book. I thought certain explanations were rather rushed and not explained in greater detail. The journey to retrieve the Horn of Gylindora was draggy to me as I think certain events during the journey are rather unnecessary. I understand that the author tried to create suspenses in the story by dropping boms and plot twists. But I think this purpose was achieved by sacrificing the pacing of the second half of the story.
Nevertheless, this entry still deserves a string 4.3 / 5 star rating from me. A classic sword and sorcery (with a little personal touch and creativity of the author) would never go wrong!
