Synopsis
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Morning Star returns to the Red Rising universe with the thrilling sequel to Iron Gold.
For a decade Darrow led a revolution against the corrupt color-coded Society. Now, outlawed by the very Republic he founded, he wages a rogue war on Mercury in hopes that he can still salvage the dream of Eo. But as he leaves death and destruction in his wake, is he still the hero who broke the chains? Or will another legend rise to take his place?
Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile, has returned to the Core. Determined to bring peace back to mankind at the edge of his sword, he must overcome or unite the treacherous Gold families of the Core and face down Darrow over the skies of war-torn Mercury.
But theirs are not the only fates hanging in the balance.
On Luna, Mustang, Sovereign of the Republic, campaigns to unite the Republic behind her husband. Beset by political and criminal enemies, can she outwit her opponents in time to save him?
Once a Red refugee, young Lyria now stands accused of treason, and her only hope is a desperate escape with unlikely new allies.
Abducted by a new threat to the Republic, Pax and Electra, the children of Darrow and Sevro, must trust in Ephraim, a thief, for their salvation—and Ephraim must look to them for his chance at redemption.
As alliances shift, break, and re-form—and power is seized, lost, and reclaimed—every player is at risk in a game of conquest that could turn the Rising into a new Dark Age.
Review
Damn, I don’t think my heart and soul will ever recover from this one, Pierce Brown has taken them and stamped all over it with this beautiful, undeniable masterpiece of literary genius.
The feels this book has given me with betrayal after betrayal, it political machines, war, and those epic battles just leave me in awe of the authors attention to so much detail and the way he scythes through some my favourite characters like the Reaper himself.
Dark Age is the fifth book in this epic Red Rising series, and Dark Age is one of those books that will live with me for a very, very long time. From the very first page, you are drawn into drown in Pierce Brown’s amazing world.
Writing and worldbuilding are truly fascinating. The scenes the author paints just explode in your mind. The characters are written so well that it’s hard not to like them despite whether their your favourites or the enemy.
What I absolutely love about this series is the names of the characters, the Roman and Viking reference throughout the whole series, making it feel drenched and rich with history. Pierce Brown is now one of my favourite authors of all time, and I still have two more books to go in this series.
The New Republic is under threat from those who refuse change and love tyranny, enslavement, murder and want to rule a society where golds are the gods and rule with an iron fist. Old and new enemies are on the rise and are gaining momentum.
Darrow and his Howlers are the only ones who stand against them, but can there be piece when there is so much evil in the world. With all the twists and turns, no one is safe. To survive and live through the horrors of war, they must bring true horror upon those who have sowed it.
A truly mesmerising read, beautiful storytelling, now for the sixth book Light Bringer, can my heart take anymore? I’ll give it a go. If you haven’t checked out any of this series yet. I very highly recommend that you do…😁🔥⚡️🪐
