The world’s best ghost hunters, the town’s most haunted mansion, what could go wrong?

A debut sample from the forthcoming Tales From Cemetery!

The Old Mayor’s Mansion sits just a few miles outside the town of Cemetery.

When best friends Sean and Devon want to increase views on their ghost investigation channel, they know the mansion is the perfect spot to film.

Armed with a slew of new equipment, the buddies set out to capture the paranormal hotspot that will make them famous—just maybe not in the way they were hoping.

It’s $0.99 because they wouldn’t allow me to make it permafree, but seeing it up there still feels kind of special.

What Readers Think of BG

Please read from FanFiFam’s very own Andy Peloquin and Ashley Brennan here and here!

History of BestGhost

BestGhost was the first story I tackled after finishing the first draft of my debut novel Cemetery. It was an idea that I had at the same time as the novel, and it was one that was never far from my thoughts. It is, in part at least, (practically) Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara fan fiction. I was watching a ton of Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural and GhostFiles at the time, and their dynamic is definitely one you can pick up on in BG. I do believe that Sean and Devon take on a world of their own however, and their personalities are definitely not identical to their inspiration in any way.

The idea to release it as a sample was a simple one. I wanted to possible get my name out their a bit and see how people felt about my writing. This way, regardless of if someone picked me out of the querying trenches (they didn’t) or I went the way of self publishing, at least I wouldn’t be starting from zero. Therefore, for the last ten-ish months, BestGhost has been circulating the internet for free as a reader magnet, review sampler, direct download, and newsletter swap. It has been downloaded probably 1,000 times (though storyorigin doesn’t give you the lifelong downloads so that’s somewhat of a guess, albeit an educated one) and where those downloads have gone, as they have not translated over to GoodReads I can only guess, however I’m happy people have the option to read it even if they have not yet.

BestGhost is first and foremost a free sampler, and I will not take that option away. The reasoning for going wide (at least to Amazon for now) was the possible extra outreach online, as tweets/swaps have gotten a little slow lately with it not being ‘spooky season’. The rerelease features another read through for anything I may have missed with the editor, as well as the somewhat updated cover, so this is a second edition of sorts. If there is a desire for paperbacks, which would definitely be small in size, I can figure something out I’m sure, so let me know!

If you would like to support me and my writing, as well as have a somewhat nicer, straight to kindle version, then use the link above and preorder please! Reviews are a huge part of getting the word out there, so even if you have already read BG, preordering would allow you to leave a verified review on Amazon, which means they post it worldwide!

Regardless of how people have come across BestGhost, I’m thankful for each of you!

I liked the story so much, and have plans for future stories, that I decided to name the publishing house after the boys! While it is little but name at the moment, I do hope to actually do something with it in the future, whether it be just pubbing myself or anthologies and the like!

Cemetery, as well as Tales From Cemetery, are both still very much so on the way. I would love for them to drop this year!

About C. J. Daley (CJDsCurrentRead)

I was an avid player of Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Lord of the Rings Edition. When the millions turned out to be fake, and answering that ‘Athelas’ was another name for ‘Kingsfoil‘ grew tiresome, I retired. Now I'm a horror author and an avid reader of all things sci-fi/fantasy/horror/mystery.
