We’re thrilled to be hosting a cover reveal for a brand new book by the Brazilian badass Ayrton Silva, Unfortunate.
Synopsis:
Wealth, power, and an easy life. Vaz had it all, but nothing could satisfy him. He always wanted more.
When one of his plans makes his boss finally decide he is a threat, Vaz finds himself with only two options: to roll over and die, or to roll the dice. Literally. Due to an ancient pact between his people and a god of chaos, Vaz, like all citizens of his country, has a special die that grants wishes… if you get a 20. Anything else results in a grisly death.
Vaz knew there would be a price to pay, but he didn’t expect that, instead of getting his wish right away, he’d have to work for his own safety. Worse: that he’d have to work for the sake of another person.
Now a fugitive forced to prevent a young woman’s death, Vaz is confronted not just by the ugliness of his world, but by his own part in it.
Well, that sounds wild, doesn’t it?
The cover really dials the madness up to 11. BEHOLD!
Artist: Joana Fraga
Release Date: May 31
Here’s a little taste of what to expect from the book:
For years, Vaz had held onto the deep-seated belief that he had his life under control. All of that came crashing down when he entered his bathroom to find a man sitting in the tub, pointing a shotgun at his chest.
Rather than turning and running, which might have been smarter, Vaz simply froze. He had already undressed, and got stuck between the impulse to run and the impulse to cover his genitals with a towel. The result was a whine-like yelp that echoed strangely in the pearly, marbled bathroom.
Fortunately, the man did not shoot.
“Mr. Falian, I presume.” The man, who wore a thick brown overcoat and a broad-brimmed hat, sat in the tub as if to wash. A black mask displaying a heavily-lined face covered his features.
Vaz could still see his eyes, though. Slowly, afraid of getting shot, he nodded.
“Take a seat.” The man nodded at the toilet and, when Vaz didn’t move, his eyes hardened. “It’s not a request.”
Vaz’s brain started recovering from the initial shock. Is he really going to shoot me on the toilet? He sat down anyway, as he wasn’t the one with a gun, and tried to get his thoughts in order.
He hasn’t shot me yet. There might still be hope.
