Where do you go when you die?

Unlike the stories others would have you believe, the first novella of The Pursuit of Shadows introduces the world beyond Earth; an endless field of tall golden grass, in the distance a tall twisty spire calls out to anyone who sees it. Eight foot tall giants patrol this land, but are they keeping you from the tower or leading you there?

Stanley is a lonely man, who hasn’t seen any of his neighbors in a few days. Perhaps longer, he isn’t sure, but there must be someone nearby because every day he sees a beat up briefcase move to different doors on his floor. Is he strong enough to face the truth of his situation?

The town of Rendbury, CT is haunted by stories the residents tell of a tavern on the edge of town. Stay away from there. No matter what. Even though she’s been away, Fiona Phillips still remembers the stories. How could she forget?

When she learns her ex died when he went out there, she’s overwhelmed, but it’s not only hurt—it’s curiosity. She said goodbye when she left town but they both knew it wasn’t forever. He was her future and now he’s dead. She vows to uncover the truth, even if it means going to the tavern and never returning. What will she find in the cottage in the woods beyond the tavern?

In the third story, an unnamed giant returns to his home. Someone has murdered his kinfolk. Is he The Last Warden?

Follow the separate but connected stories that make up the first novella of The Pursuit of Shadows, an ongoing dark fantasy tale with elements of horror and romance. Beware, sometimes you chase the shadows, and sometimes they chase you.

A Note from the Author

The Pursuit of Shadows is a labor of love, and I am delighted to be formally announcing the first book (and the series!), but I know that it’s very easy to say “here’s my new book series!”, so I wanted to take a moment to talk about my intentions.

While this is a cover reveal, something we’ve all seen A LOT of times, it’s also a commitment on my part. I am committing to FIVE BOOKS. Even if only three people buy them, I’m still doing all five.

First up is The Last Warden, which is a teaser that sets up the world and who the major characters are. Book Two is focused on one of the major characters and her continued journey, while Book Three is… well you’ll just have to wait! The plan is to release the first two in quick succession, and a few months later to release the third.

I’ve been working on these stories since 2016, and it’s very exciting to be sharing them with folks!

About the Author

Known for passionate coverage at pop-culture publication GateCrashers, Edward Kane is also an author of prose and comic books. With over two decades of retail employment, he is far from faint of heart and aims to show that through his fiction. Edward lives in Connecticut with his wife, where they are most likely watching The Office, again.
