Vampires

Review: Vampire Metropolis by Robin Brown

May 16, 2025 by Bill Adams Leave a Comment

Synopsis: Hi, I’m Caiden, I look nineteen, but I’m actually a two-hundred-year-old vampire… and I’ve just been kicked out of a plane and dropped into a walled-off prison city for the world’s fantasy creatures. Welcome to Vampire City! A sprawling metropolis of segregated boroughs, desperate poverty and tyrannical vampire overlords who feed upon their lowly […]

Review: The Vengeance (The Vampires of Dumas #1) by Emma Newman

May 7, 2025 by Eleni A.E. Leave a Comment

The best way to sum up my feelings for this book overall would be to say that I did enjoy what I read for the most part, but I was disappointed not to find what had been promised. Newman shows no lack of writing skills for sure, in fact what we do get reads really smoothly and I’ll get into all the good stuff properly in a moment. But I’m not sure I’d confidently say she hit the mark on the target she set out either.

Review: The Songbird & the Heart of Stone (Crowns of Nyaxia #3) by Carissa Broadbent

December 3, 2024 by Paige Leave a Comment

The Songbird and the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent

This was my first Carissa Broadbent book and I can tell you for a fact it will not be my last. This is technically the third in the Crowns of Nyaxia series but first in its own duology. So no need to have read the first two books to start this one, it follows what I believe is a side character in the first two books, and all of the important history and context is revealed throughout the book. At no point did I feel like I was missing any context by not having read the other books. TLDR; you can start with this book and be fine.

Review: Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas

October 2, 2024 by Eleni A.E. Leave a Comment

In short, Isabel Cañas’ Vampire of El Norte is everything you could possibly wish for in a Mexican gothic, with rich folklore, beautiful and atmospheric prose, complex characters, and a forbidden romance rooted in cultural and historical authenticity, to die for. Not to mention how incredibly it shows the “other side” of the Mexican-American war of the late 1840s, in ways you rarely see in mainstream media.

Review: The Hunter’s Gambit by Ciel Pierlot

June 7, 2024 by Tom Bookbeard Leave a Comment

The Hunter’s Gambit is cathartic as hell and an excellent read. There’s more blood and gore spilled than a lift in the Overlook Hotel.
