BestGhost (The Cemetery Collection) by C.J. Daley

September 18, 2025 by Nick Snape 1 Comment

Rating: /10

Synopsis:

The world’s best ghost hunters, the town’s most haunted mansion, what could go wrong?

A debut sample from the forthcoming Tales From Cemetery!

The Old Mayor’s Mansion sits just a few miles outside the town of Cemetery.

When best friends Sean and Devon want to increase views on their ghost investigation channel, they know the mansion is the perfect spot to film.

Armed with a slew of new equipment, the buddies set out to capture the paranormal hotspot that will make them famous—just maybe not in the way they were hoping.

Review:

I picked up BestGhost because I wanted to dip my toe into horror again, and had heard good things about the town of Cemetery and the goings on there. I didn’t realise this was a lead-in for Tales from Cemetery, a soon to be released collection of shorts from CJ Daley, but I’ll be picking that up soon enough. I’m an old-school horror fan, where the visceral is often layered in the depths of imagination, and found BestGhost ticked my boxes. My intent was to read it between books, but three pages in and I was racing through and found I’d finished this novelette before I knew it. The writing is crisp, the characterisation well-structured and the story of a deadly haunting so nearly caught on camera proved a powerful tale. I slept, but my dreams were just as haunted!

About Nick Snape

Nick Snape has been steeped in Science Fiction and Fantasy since his friends first dragged him from his schoolwork and stuck a book under his nose. Lost to the world of imagination, he became a teacher by accident, though he thoroughly enjoyed developing the joy of reading and writing in his pupils. Having retired after thirty years, he thought it was high time to practise what he preached.
Nick's books feature everything from all out, heart-pounding, fast-paced action to thoughtful, character driven twists on the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Genetics to Artificial Intelligence, Artifice Dragons to Soul-Eating enemies, nothing is off the menu.
